Producing high quality racehorses for over 50 years

Rainston Farm & Stud the unique and historic Equine Establishment has been producing high quality racehorses for over 50 years on some of the finest and most fertile limestone land in Ireland.

The place has been long associated with the Fowler name, the enigmatic Captain Harry was renowned for his prowess on the hunting field and entertaining Austrian Princesses in the first half of the 20 Century. His nephew, Brigadier Fowler inherited Rahinston and his Uncle’s brilliance in the saddle on both the hunting field and the Polo field, where he was part of the British team to win a silver medal at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.

His son John took up the mantle of training after a very successful career in the saddle as an amateur. Along with his wife Chich they enjoyed enormous success through four decades with the likes of Maid of Money, Bankers Benefit and Opera Hat.

John was tragically killed in 2008 and Chich took up the mantle of training and enjoyed success with the likes of Annie May and Banjaxed Girl.

In 2013, Chich very sadly lost her battle with cancer which left Harry, her son and Lorna at the helm. Both Harry and Lorna have endeavoured to continue the strong legacy set by Harry’s parents and have steered the farm more in the direction of a Stud. With their very able team, Lorna and Harry are able to offer a broad spectrumof  services from the 700 plus acre farm (listed under services).

Harry as a director of Tattersalls Ireland eats, sleeps and breathes pedigrees and bloodlines! He spent 14 years working for Tattersalls in Newmarket and at the same time enjoying success on the track and the point to point field on both sides of the Irish Sea as an Amateur.

Lorna, like Harry grew up with racehorses (her mother Susan Bradburne trained in Scotland). She rode for several years as an amateur, before taking an increased role in the media as a presenter on RUK and as the Raceday announcer at Newmarket.

Head Man Dermot Fagan has a longer association with Rahinston than most marriages! It is now nearer 40 years than 30, his experience makes him invaluable. He was recently shortlisted at the Godolphin Irish Stud & Stable Staff awards.

Mickey, another Fagan! Does the maintenance around the farm which is endless particularly the fencing!

Martin Connolly is a member of our ground staff  keeping on top of the daily tasks in the yard and over seeing farrier and veterinary visits.

Paul Birchall takes charge of our sales preparation in the young horses and is a huge help in preparing the young horses for backing.

Anna McSparron keeps the office running smoothly while also extending her job specification somewhat to helping in the daily duties of the yard, from riding out the race horses, travelling them to race days and also mares for cover, to handling the breeding stock and anything else that maybe afoot!
