Breaking – In

Rahinston has excellent facilities for the breaking-in and handling of young horses. There are two lunge ring, covered horse walker, loose school,three furlong sand canter and acres of grassland which all help to give horses the perfect start to their ridden life. The experienced team focus on individual attention to suit particular characteristics, ensuring the correct outcome is achieved.


With over 400 acres of high quality grass canters and gallops, a circular jumping lane, schooling ground, sand canter and a several miles of private lanes, Rahinston has the perfect idyllic surroundings to cater for horses of all ages. These facilities are ideal for building up fitness levels, focusing on strengthening each animals’ individual weakness’s with the end result being a happy, strong and fit racehorse for the racetrack.

Sales Preparation

Rahinston has prepared horses for sale at all the major National Hunt sales in Ireland and where it has been appropriate, in the UK. We are by no means restricted to National Hunt, and over the past few years we have been preparing increasing numbers for the flat sales. A knowledgable and experienced team will ensure that the best possible prices for clients are achieved.

Boarding Broodmares

Alongside the stud’s own broodmares, Rahinston has for many years welcomed boarding mares. Kevin Foley is our maternity vet, and his experience which included being a resident vet at Rathbarry, we can ensure the highest quality care for your mares. Being ideally located close to Dublin’s two major ferry ports, we can faciliate broodmares to ‘walk-in’ to top quality stallions located in studs across Ireland. We have an ideal quarantine yard, situated on the farm one kilometer from the main yard, to facilitate mares that are temporary or short term boarders.

Rest & Rehabilitation

The idyllic surroundings and over 700 acres of lush County Meath grassland (with separate quarantine yard) is the perfect environment for horses that need a break from the rigours of racing and/or need to recover from injury. The team practice modern and up to date techniques in rehabilitation, and together with two equine chiropractors we ensure that the best individual attention is given to each and every horse as they require it. The quiet, isolated atmosphere and the sophistication of the rehabilitation techniques ensure we have the perfect tools at our disposal to ensure that our clients horses can return into full training happy and fully refreshed.
